Birth of the NFL

2014 Canton, OH

Birth of the NFL is a public art project that honors the founding of the league in Canton, Ohio in 1920. Placed onto a rusted steel pedestal that lists the names of the original ten teams of the era sits an open, stainless spheroid form. Housed within the spheroid is a composition of intersecting letters, N-F-L, that are made from stainless steel and Dichroic glass. The sculpture’s message is that of a seed that is germinating within its husk.
